Liebermann's Pastorale, Op. 5 for Woodwind Trio dates from the composer's high school years, but the 3-minute work is not juvenilia except in its brevity. Pastorale has a charm inherent in the chamber winds medium, in tandem with the dark chromatic lyricism (and hints of melodic phrases) that came to fruition in later works.
