Blightsworth's School for Gifted Waterfowl
for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon
by Margaret Fay - Canadian bassoonist and composer

This piece was inspired by the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series.  In these fantastical books, Hogwarts is a highly-specialized boarding school for adolescents with innate magical abilities.  It is essentially unknown to the entire non-magical population of the world.  If there can be a school for magical children, one can only assume that there must also be a school for gifted waterfowl.  Like Hogwarts, Blightworth's School for Gifted Waterfowl is steeped in tradition, school pride, and rigorous studies.  In my composition, Blightsworth students waddle their way through a busy day of classes, launching into a patriotic performance of their school's song partway through.

Blightworth's School for Gifted Waterfowl was premiered by the Trio de Bois (Erika Qureshi, oboe; Lori Wakley Shepherd, clarinet; and Robyn Watson, bassoon) at the 2022 International Double Reed Society conference in Boulder, Colorado.
