ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Christian Julius Weissenborn was born on April 13, 1837, in Eisenberg, and died on April 21, 1888, in Leipzig. He served as principal bassoon with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and as Professor of Bassoon at the Leipzig Conservatory. His Practical Bassoon Method, first published in 1887, remains today as the most widely used teaching method for the bassoon. In addition, he authored two collections of bassoon studies, several pieces for bassoon and piano, a delightful set of bassoon trios, and a small amount of vocal music.
