Masquerade was written in 2019 for Dr. Reid Messich, oboist, and Dr. D. Ray McClellan, clarinetist, who are both faculty members of the University of Georgia Hodgson School of Music.
The atmosphere of a festive gathering with elegant and elaborate
costumes is the inspiration for Masquerade. Featured are the dignity and regalness of an Emperor and a Queen, the humor of a Harlequin, the dignified progression of a Promenade, the Capriciousness of unexpected words and actions by the guests, and the heroic excitement of a knight-errant in Paladin.
