Bothnian Rhapsody
for woodwind quintet
by Jukka Viitasaari (b. 1961)- Finnish composer

From the composer:

Bothnian Rhapsody was commissioned by the Finnish Pohjanmaa (Bothnian) Military Band for their 50th anniversary in 203. Being myself of ethnic Ostrobothnian descent, I was thrilled that the Rhapsody was finished a year in advance. Listeners may recognize some of the Finnish folk-song allusions such as "The Fighting Song. The International Trumpet Guild published the brass quintet version as a supplement to the March 2007 ITG journal. In the summer of 2007 the American quintet Calico Winds asked me via email if there was a wind quintet version. "There is one by tomorrow", I replied.
