In his complete method for bassoon (Die Kunst des Fagottblaesens) from 1843, Carl Almenraeder hoped to fill a void in what he called "the utter lack of properly organized methods for this instrument". In the book he leads the student from playing the first pitches through a highly advanced level of technical proficiency, while at the same time espousing the advantages of playing his newly designed instrument, which he sold through the Schott company in Mainz. These 48 exercises appear in chapter 10 of the method.
