Quartet (Score & Parts)-OB/STG3

Composer: Baek, Kari

Publisher: TrevCo

Edition: 1172

for oboe, violin, viola, and cello
by Kari Baek (b.1950)- Faroese composer and oboist
I. Allegro- Leikum fagurt a foldum
II. Adagio- eingin treour dansin undir moldum
The titles of the Quartet's movements are the first and second line in the refrain of a Faroese dance ballad. The material for the quartet- scales, motifs, and rhythms- is based on three different melodies for this refrain. The verse in Faroese dance ballads usually consist of two pairs of lines, each with 4+3 beats. This pattern recurs regularly in the string accompaniment. The titles translate to: "Let's dance gay in green Meadow; 'neath the Mould shall never Dancer's Tread go".
