Three Diversions (1990)
for woodwind quintet: flute, oboe, clarinet in Bb, horn, and bassoon
by Joan Trimble (1915-2000) - Irish composer, pianist, and violinist
1. Preamble
2. Pastoral
3. Burlesque
The quintet's three perfectly idiomatic movements are entitled Preamble in fugato style, followed by a lyrical and reflective Pastoral and ending with a high spirited Burlesque, a light-hearted parody of Scottish and Irish dance rhythms and ragtime. An Irish idiom pervades much of Trimble's music. Edited by John Wilcox.
