Theresa Martin is a composer of energetic, melodious, and rhythmically driven music and often draws her inspiration from literature, images, nature, and personal experiences. Martin discusses her piece, Riptide 2009, commissioned by Robert Spring and Albie Micklich:
"Often when faced with life's many challenges, one can be easily swept into the ocean of uncertainties. The pieces about the strength and perseverance required to overcome life's unexpected 'riptides.'"
