Two Pieces for Solo Oboe from "Manko"

by Alan Hovhaness (1911-2000) - American composer of Armenian and Scottish descent

In 1950, Hovhaness composed Manko, a suite of fourteen pieces for oboe and bassoon. Then of these are duets, six of which were published as part of the Suite for Oboe and Bassoon in 1968. The collection includes two pieces for solo oboe, published here for the first time. Yerk (Song), subtitled "To the Mountains", is the fifth of the set, and Yerk "Raga Kim Tzah" is the twelfth. The holograph contains the composer's articulations, which have been included in this edition, but no dynamic indications. Edited by Bruce Gbur.
