Edited by Robert Minter. The Trumpet Voluntary which forms the fourth movement of this suite has been wrongly attributed to Henry Purcell for many years. Compared with his contemporaries, Clarke's use of the trumpet is somewhat conservative, with only a few solo passages. The beauty of the music, however, with its cheerful tunes and graceful dances should be certain to secure this work an important place in the concert repertoire.
