Concert Duo KV191
for two bassoons
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) - Austrian composer
I. Allegro
II. Andante ma adagio
III. Rondo - Tempo di Menuetto
Concert Duo for two bassoons is based on the bassoon concerto in B-flat major KV191 and is arranged for two bassoons by Žilvinas Smalys.
From the arranger: The arrangement of this concerto has two objectives. First, to provide an accompaniment for the solo part in case there's no piano to rehearse with. This can be very handy if one wants to accompany a student or a colleague. Second, to offer the possibility to perform this piece as a concert duo similar to Mozart Sonata for bassoon and cello KV 292. Some elements were actually borrowed from this piece. Compared to the original score, the duo version obviously has certain limitations. Considering that, a number of modifications were implemented.
- orchestral introductions were omitted or shortened in all movements
- orchestral episodes were shortened or replaced with short transitions
- the accompaniment in the 2nd part was heavily modified
- the form of the 3rd movement was changed to avoid excessive repetitiveness
