Hello Old Friend
for oboe and piano
by Kevin Kopsco (b.1988)

Hello, Old Friend was written for oboist Anne Sneller as a part of an oboe writing intensive put on by Joseph Sowa’s Wizarding School for Composers in partnership with oboist Jennet Ingle and her oboe studio.

Hello, Old Friend brings you back to a childhood time in your life where you found comfort, safety, or even a friendship in a simple pleasure. This may be a stuffed animal, a game of some kind, or an attachment to an old instrument.

Anne began playing oboe as a child through a school music program. As she aged out, she was no longer able to afford what was required to continue playing the oboe. Years later, as her daughter entered a similar program, she decided to rekindle the relationship with her old friend, the oboe and oboe repertoire.

As we experience this nostalgia, we celebrate those old relationships and feel abundance at the ability to keep that love alive in our hearts.
