The Singing Bassoon: Forty Legato Studies
for bassoon
by Giuseppe Concone (1801-1861) - Italian singing master, pianist, and composer

Edited by June Emerson. These legato studies, with their long phrases, are ideal for developing a good tone on the bassoon. They need full breath support, and, to gain the most benefit, they should played quite slowly. The editor has changed much of the phrasing to make the studies more bassoon-like than vocal, a few difficult slurs have been left unaltered. It is a good idea to try to do them. After all, playing the bassoon, with its awkward fingerings and fickle reeds, is a constant exercise in achieving the impossible!
