Amoroso
for oboe and piano
by Petr Eben (1929-2007) - Czech composer, organist, and choirmaster
The "Amoroso" begins with yearning solitude, characterized by a single, repetitive tone. The oboe strives for contact, which is finally found in the melodious third: ascending in steps of a quarter, in a sense groping, he/she gradually passes, dynamically increasing this search to the desperate fortissimo, then the pianissimo sounds the redeeming "Liebesterz," which is now repeated in different versions. After the interplay, the oboe - at first very timid and always taking a new start - finally agrees to a lyric love song, which ends the composition.
