Who Did Kill Cock Robin?
for Baritone Voice, Oboe, and Guitar
by Jurriaan Andriessen (1925-1996)- Dutch composer
Text in English. Set includes Score (vocal part), oboe part, and guitar part.
The song, or rather the ballad, Who did kill Cock Robin? was written at the request of the Erasmus Ensemble. The text is an English 'traditional', whose first-known version dates from approximately 1744. There are two theories about the origin of the text: 1) that it was a commentary on the fall of the government of Robert Walpole; 2) that this is a metric view of an ancient myth, perhaps the Norwegian saga about the death of Balder.
