Ricercar: Canzona da sonare
for four bassoons and contrabassoon
by Andrea Gabrieli (1535-1585) - Italian composer and organist

Arranged by Daniel Paul Davis

The Ricercar is an early example of a type of music that became the sonata of the Baroque and Classical period. The Ricercar is an imitative composition originating in the Renaissance and continued through the Baroque period including several Ricercares found in J.S. Bach's Music Offering BWV 1079. This Ricercar has three imitative sections with a restatement of the first section at the end.

For the Bosque Bassoon Band of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
