Scenes at the Ranch
for unaccompanied oboe
by Ian Davidson - American composer and oboist

Scenes at the Ranch was composed between 2010 and 2012 at Ghost Ranch, near Abiquiu, New Mexico. Each of the movements is inspired by a painting by American Painter Georgia O'Keefe, who spent much of her life at Ghost Ranch. All five paintings were done between 1937 and 1940. Towers is inspired by The Cliff Chimneys (1938), The Old Tree by Cedar Tree with Lavender Hills (1937), The Patio by The Patio No. 1 (1940), Pedernal by Red Hills and Pedernal (1934), and Cliffs by My Backyard (1937). Scenes at the Ranch was premiered at the 2012 IDRS Convention at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Ian Davidson is Regents' and University Distinguished Professor at Texas State University. He also serves a Principal Oboe of the Austin Opera Orchestra and English Horn and Associate Principal Oboe of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
