ABOUT THE MUSIC

de Kooning’s New York was composed between 2020 and 2023, with initial work being done as part of a writing workshop at Texas State University in the spring of 2020.

Each of the four movements is inspired by a painting done by Willem de Kooning in 1955.

The movement titles match the painting title.

ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Ian Davidson is Regents' and University Distinguished Professor at Texas State University. He also serves a Principal Oboe of the Austin Opera Orchestra and English Horn and Associate Principal Oboe of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
