A Little Jazz
for oboe and bassoon
by Timothy Cooper (b. 1954) - Canadian composer
After playing through a series of Duke Ellington pieces for piano, I began improvising. The improvisations quickly turned into two-part inventions in a jazz style. While I could hear two saxophones playing the pieces, my penchant for double reeds led me to creating this series of five short duets for oboe and bassoon. Although light in feel, the pieces are not always rhythmically simple, but should provide double reed players with some music in a different style.
