Fantasy Quartet
for flute, clarinet, bassoon, and marimba
by Scott Jordan (b. 1975)- American-born composer living in Japan

I. Pixie Dance
II. The Magic Forest
III. Sprites

The word Fantasy in the title is a reference to fantasy literature. This charming quartet depicts elements from the magic realms developed and embellished in this genre. The composer states, 'Music, to me, has a magical quality that naturally complements the imagination of fantasy writers."

Pixie Dance is a spirited and playful forest scene. At certain points, the music in this movements uses contrasting metric feels simultaneously. Magic Forest brings forth a mysterious nocturnal ambiance with an overlapping of ethereal tones and echoes. Sprites is quick and dance-like. Utilizing a four-note scale, it's colorful, rhythmic melodies are juggled among the four instruments.
