24 Caprices from the 18th Century
for solo bassoon
Edited by Oskar Peter

In the Appendix to a Sonata in e minor for flute and basso continuo, printed in Paris in 1740, we find 24 different pieces without bass, Composees Expres pour former l'embouchure et Accoutumer la main aux difficultez; tant du meme Auteur que de divers autres. According to Braun, by following his instructions on transposition, these pieces originally for flute can be also played on bassoon. The authorship of these caprices is unclear, and neither the title page nor the pieces themselves reveal much. As many of these works appear in several 18th century prints and copies, and in various places, we can assume that these "instructive pieces" of didactic value were much appreciated among flautists and bassoonists.

Schott also publishes these 24 Caprices HERE and lists the author as Jean-Daniel Braun.
