Andante e Rondo Ongarese, op. 35
for bassoon and guitar
by Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) - German composer and conductor
Arranged by Annina Holland-Moritz and Stefan Conradi

Carl Maria von Weber wrote the original version of the Andante e Rondo Ongarese for his brother Fritz, a violist, in 1809. In 1813, upon request of Georg-Friedrich Brandt, bassoonist of the Munich court, he rearranged the piece completely. The version for bassoon prevailed and is a virtuoso piece that is virtually in every bassoon soloist's repertoire. The arrangement of the orchestral accompaniment for guitar emerged from a desire to expand the repertoire for bassoon and guitar and is closely oriented to the original. it is in fact only little known that Carl Maria von Weber was a great friend of the guitar and also played this instrument himself. He used the guitar in some operas, chamber music works, and also in songs.
