To Les Thimmig with admiration. This work was composed for a celebration of the 4th of July in 1962 at the Yale Summer School of Music and Art in Norfolk, CT. A few of the wind players prepared a "band concert" suitable for the occasion. A visiting musician, Les Thimmig, later of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, volunteered to play bass clarinet. The piece is dedicated to him.
