This piece was commissioned by Dr. Robert Jordan, bassoonist with the USAF Band of Mid-America. From the composer:...Fantasy Variations: a theme and variations that utilizes melodic and rhythmic elements of "Tiger Rag" but sets these in harmonic language that ranges far afield from the familiar tonal and tertian setting of the original song...smart, funny, at times introverted while at other the opposite, in turn serious and light-hearted, but always a little unexpected and a hell of a lot of fun!
