Hukvaldy, in local dialect Ukvaly, is the name of a huge castle (now in ruins) in North East Moravia; the small village below the castle bears the same name. In this village the Czech composer Leos Janacek was born. Hence pod Ukvaly means below (the castle) Hukvaldy. In the last movement of the suite, fragments of a folk song from Hukvaldy are used.
