Cat & Mouse
for bassoon quartet
by Robert Davidson (b. 1954)- English composer

The inspiration for Cat & Mouse came from a well-known Hollywood Cartoon pairing of Feline and Rodent. This is not- nor is it intended to be- programmatic in the way the score for one of these 5-minute animation classics would be. But as in the film scores, elements of the furtiveness and the mad harum-scaurm chases can be found in this music. attempts to be humorous in music are difficult and dangerous and often fail in the end. But Robert Davidson has written a piece with a good helping of wit and cheek, along with technical demands and ensemble challenges for all performers.
