Five Big Little Pieces
for bassoon and tuba
by Daniel Paul Davis- American composer Five Big Little Pieces was inspired by a memory of a hike I took as a teenager into the alps of the Cascade Mountains near Icicle Creek, Leavenworth, Washington. On the first day we hiked up Snow Creek to Nada and Snow Lake, then the steep climb up to eh Enchantment Lakes on the second day. The beauty of the lakes, the mountain side, with steep peaks and deep valleys, a treacherous path and the hiker's single file up the mountain. Then at night, the beauty of the stars, the most beautiful settings I've ever seen of the picturesque Milky Way galaxy. And through it all a meditative blissful mood that comes to mind at the moment of physical exhaustion.
