Storytime Suite for flute and bassoon

Storytime Suite is loosely based on a traditional dance suite. This piece fuses together modal and folk-like melodies, modern chromaticism, and the playfulness of the bassoon and flute orchestration. The music features the bassoon while the flute is meant to take on a more supporting role with melodic flourishes and contextual harmonies that add color to the piece. In the first movement, the Jig in 6/8 uses dark, minor-mode scales as does the second movement which features the typical 3/4 meter of a Sarabande with an accent on beat two. Both the first and second movements contain a fair amount of chromaticism. The third movement is more of an upbeat folk tune in 4/4 and features the athleticism and rhythmic drive of the bassoonist.
