Coachman's Song & Posthorn Fugue
for woodwind quintet: flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon
by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) - German Baroque composer
1. Coachman's Song
2. Posthorn Fugue
Arranged by Christopher Weait (b. 1939) - American composer, bassoonist, and pedagogue. In 1704, Bach composed the programmatic Capriccio in B-flat sopra la lontanezza del duo fratello dilettissimo (on the departure of his beloved brother) that is quite unusual among his works for its detailed titling of six movements commemorating his brother's departure by coach. The last two movements, Aria di postiglione (Coachmans' Song) and Fuga all'imitazione della cornetta di postiglioni (Posthorn Fugue) are transcribed here.
