Variations on "O Cara Armonia", op. 9
from Mozart's "Magic Flute"
for oboe (or flute) and piano
by Fernando Sor (1778-1839) - Spanish composer and guitar player

The Theme and Variations on Mozart's Magic Flute has been described by some authors as the most recognizable and difficult piece ever written by Fernando Sor. An introduction in a minor key leads to the Mozart theme, which comes near the end of the first act of the opera, and five variations. These range from fairly simple alterations of the theme, to a minor key adaptation, some flamenco-style ornamentation, and an exceptionally arpeggiated version. In adapting this lovely work for oboe (or flute) and piano, we have adjusted the original guitar writing to fit a wind instrument including all articulations, dynamics, and some chordal revisions.
