by Helmut Sadler (b. 1921)

The Three Burlesques are named for three wind instruments of the folk music of Transylvana where Sadler was born. The first instrument is the Sambuca which is made out of the wood of the elder tree. The second instrument is the Tibia, made out of bone. The third is called Czakan after a 19th century stick flute from Bohemia.
