Partita, BWV 1013
for unaccompanied bassoon
by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) - German Baroque composer
I. Allemande
II. Corrente
III. Sarabande
IV. Bouree Anglaise
Arranged and edited by William Waterhouse. The Partita in a minor may be considered the greatest work that we possess for an unaccompanied wind instrument; this no excuse is offered for adapting it for one other than that for which it was originally written (flute). The history of the work is comparatively recent: it lay undiscovered until 1917, when the manuscript in the hand of two different contemporary copyists came to light; entitled Solo pour la flute traversiere, it has since come to be accepted by scholars as a genuine work of Bach, although it is still uncertain when and for whom it was written.
